When he falls in love with Broadway actress Elise Klassan, he holds nothing back. Elise, who has made tremendous sacrifices to forward her career, is swept off her feet by handsome, charming Preston When the day comes that she must choose between her ambition and her heart, she profoundly hurts the one man who could have made her happy.
Two years later, Elise has become a world-famous actress, and Preston is a very successful lawyer. But fame has not equaled happiness for Elise, and Preston is much too bitter and cynical ever to consider falling in love again. For Preston his dream is to become a successful lawyer. So when they meet, falling in love is unexpected and is an unplanned distraction for their career goals. As they make their relationship work with their busy schedules they fall deeper in love.
But will love get in the way of their dreams? You have to read Proposing to Preston to find out! What did I like about Proposing to Preston? I fell in love with Preston and Elise. I found it easy to relate to their ambition and their need to find a balance between work and family. They are wealthy and have corporate and political influence, but that is just used as a background. The stories focuses on people going after their dreams and overcoming their personal fears or insecurities.
Readers can easily form a connection with the characters and not get lost with the details of an extravagant lifestyle. Elise comes from a Mennonite family. The lifestyle is simple and plain. Preston really cares for Elise so he respects her and is patient with her.
Their whirlwind romance is passionate and heartbreaking. They both make mistakes in their relationship and I found it easy to agree with both of their points of views. This story stirred up different emotions that kept me entertained and unable to put down.
But I know that we will get to see this couple in the next books of The Winslow Brothers series. Katy Regnery is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is flawless. With every new book I am more impressed with her storytelling and creativity. I know that there will be romance, characters on a journey of self-discovery and a sense of family unity. The books of The Blueberry Lane Series are approximately pages and are a perfect way to add a quick romance into your day.
Jul 07, Jen rated it it was amazing. Check out the full review on Bookaholics Not-So-Anonymous. Proposing the Preston is the second novel in the Winslow Brothers series from bestselling author Katy Regnery and turns the spotlight on the second oldest brother, Preston, and his love affair with Elise Klassen. The story is split into two parts with the events in New York followed by the events in Philadelphia two years afterward.
When they first meet, Preston is in the middle of an internship in a law office while prepping for the bar exam while Elise is a struggling stage actress. When they see each other again after everything that happens in New York, both Preston and Elise have achieved success in their respective fields, but for all their professional accolades, their personal lives have languished. The blurb did not prepare me for where this story was headed, but it was more than worth the trip it took me on.
Preston Winslow is the kind of man who loves with his whole heart and would do absolutely anything for the woman who owns his heart. When he meets Elise Klassen, he knows there's something special about her and their love affair in New York changes both their lives. I'll admit that my affection was reserved solely for Preston, and it could be due to the occasional bouts of frustration I felt toward Elise. How could you not fall totally in love with Preston and want to spend the rest of your life with him, knowing how caring and supportive he was?
Elise making the choice she did in New York was heartrending and her unexpected return to his life two years later had me thinking for a minute that she didn't deserve a second chance with him.
But hey, if he made her work for it in New York, turnabout is fair play in Philadelphia. I absolutely love how Katy Regnery made this a story of true love and how the lead characters find it with each other the first time around but allowed it to get away and fight for it when fate throws them in each other's path two years afterward. Readers get to experience both times with Preston and Elise and it's difficult to not feel the anticipation and frustration while they're in New York and then the hesitance and hope when they're in Philadelphia.
I also like how this sequel and its predecessor highlight the role family plays in the lives of its characters. Bidding on Brooks set the bar high and there's no doubt in my mind that Proposing to Preston more than raised it for the next one in this fabulous series. Five out of five stars. Jul 13, Marie Vasquez rated it it was amazing. Preston Winslow has pushed aside all the other male leads from the Blueberry Lane series to take the 1 spot in my heart.
He was, downright, the absolute sweetest male character I have ever come across. I couldn't help but swoon over for him from the very beginning and ended up falling in love with him as much as Elise did. At the end of Bidding for Brooks, we're left wondering who the mysterious woman from Preston's past was and in Proposing to Preston, we're treated with a tale of his whirlwin Preston Winslow has pushed aside all the other male leads from the Blueberry Lane series to take the 1 spot in my heart.
At the end of Bidding for Brooks, we're left wondering who the mysterious woman from Preston's past was and in Proposing to Preston, we're treated with a tale of his whirlwind love affair after seeing Elise Klassan perform in an awful off-off Broadway play. Though the play was nothing to rave about, he was utterly captivated by her beauty and talent. From there, their romance progressed rather quickly but timing of it all was an issues; ultimately leading to heartache.
They loved each other. That much was apparent but they were at a time in their lives where they still had goals to accomplish so without malice intent, Preston was left with a broken heart. I felt so bad for him. Elise's character was so sweet that I couldn't be made at her for it.
I understood where she was coming from but it was heartbreaking bone the less. So to see them get a send chance in Part II, I was leaping for joy. I was in awe of Preston's devotion to Elise. His love never wavered for her and he leapt at the chance to prove it every time. Tell me what you need sweetheart, and it's yours.
His love was so evident and true that I loved him more and more with each page. Elise was an wonderful female character. Strong characteristics and an ambition that sometimes got in her way, but she had a true and kind heart.
She came from a simple life and left it behind to chase her dreams only to be blindsided with an overpowering and intense love that she never once dreamed of. I couldn't fault her for her mistakes. She was such a sweet person and I was so thankful that she eventually came to her senses. Katy Regnery has the ability to tell a story that has me falling in love with each and every one of her characters.
I have yet to come across one that I couldn't resist. The stories are always heartwarming and fantastical that I've felt like I was the character I live their heartache, happiness, pain, sorrow and love. She's an amazing storyteller.
I thought it was a quick, sweet feel good read. I've never read anything by Katy Regnery before and after this one, I can say that I would love to continue reading about The Winslow brothers. I want to meet all of them. But before I do that, let's talk about Preston. Their relationship starts rather instantly, and because of their own personal goals and aspirations, life gets in the way, which ends up leaving both of them with broken hearts for a few years.
This story follows their path to healing and forgiveness Like I said, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, it was fun, it was sweet. In my opinion, I would use this book as a nice palate cleanser -- read right after a really emotional book or even a not so great book.
I think this read would give you enough of the feels. The story, though quite predictable, was so fun to read. It was believable for the most part, and the characters were believable.
I felt for both Preston and Elise throughout this book, even though I wanted to smack both of them at times, too. The thing about this book that I really liked the most? Despite it being rather one dimensional, plot-wise? She demonstrated how a relationship that was founded on pretty much the quickest courtship known to man, can fall apart because of the actions of BOTH people, not just the man or the woman. Granted, how one character handles the situation in this book is a bit more extreme, in my opinion; I really appreciated how it's made know that BOTH Preston and Elise were at fault for the demise of their relationship.
Even though there are secondary characters, they don't do much for me. I was all about our two main characters this time around. But that's okay. A couple of the supporting characters were Preston's siblings and we know that they have their own books, so I'm almost glad that we don't get too much on any of them. The progression of the story was well done and the development of the characters -- mainly Preston and Elise -- was really good, too. Overall, I just had a lot of fun with this read.
And I can't wait to read even more of the series! Jun 28, Charidy rated it it was amazing. Katy Regnery newest book " Proposing to Preston " is another wonderful story. The Winslows are another family that live in Haverford down the street from the English Brothers and the 2nd in the Winslows series. This story starts in the past and explains why Preston is so peculiar in the other books Not just some girl who stole his heart.
But for him it was "The Girl" the only girl for him and knew it the moment he saw her and only hoped he could get to know her. Elise was raised as a simple girl on a farm in a Mennonite society, but had big dreams. She left her family to pursue her dreams of being an actress on Broadway. She moved to NYC and put herself through school and takes just about any part she can. She works incredibly hard and even though she would love to be able to share her successes with someone, she has no time for a relationship..
Katy writes their story with such detail that at one point I had to put the book down because I was reading through tears. Preston loves with everything he has, even though Elise resists his charm, she can't help but fall in love with him However love isn't easy, especially if she has never had a relationship and has had to rely on her own determination and drive to get where she is How can she give that up?
Katy write this with descriptive eloquence that makes you feel like a fly on the wall watching it all happen. I fell asleep with my kindle because I didn't want to stop reading. I was vested to this story by the end of the first chapter. I LOVED this book and often wonder while reading these stories if the characters really exist because Katy Regnery brings them to life with such ease, the reader will be drawn into the book easily too and will crave the next story just like me Jul 04, Summer rated it it was amazing.
We first meet Elise and Preston two years prior when their courtship begins…and blossoms faster than a lilac bush. Preston is heartbroken.
Fast forward the story to present day. Preston is angry and alone. Elise is lonely, full of regret and marginally famous. She finally pulls her head out of her…well, you know…and accepts an acting job in Philadelphia with the help of Jax Rousseau and soon finds herself face to face with Preston — her one true love. When a family loss brings Preston and Elise back together again — can they move forward? Can Preston forgive Elise for leaving him in the dust? Can Elise explain her sudden move to Hollywood?
Can Katy Regnery make this reader less pissed off?! Clearly, this read brought out some emotions in me. Even my husband noticed. You seem…angry. I was SO angry and Elise for leaving Preston. For being selfish and seeing fame instead of giving herself a chance to be a good partner, despite her fear of falling in love so quickly. However, this is the reason I love Katy Regnery and her writing so darn much.
She evokes emotion with the way she writes, the way she crafts her characters and their stories with precision and care. Be sure to add this to your summer reading list! Review can be read at It's About The Book 4.
What a sweet love story about finding yourself and finding your one true love—and having to choose between them. The depth of sorrow and regret, the hope for a second chance, and the maturity it takes to know when to take it slow—such a hard blend to make right. Elise and Preston met when they were both on the brink of making it. Preston had lost his chance at the Olympics and was living his second dream of being a lawyer.
Devastated, Preston nearly destroys everything in his life. Has she gained the maturity to make their marriage a priority, and can Preston be forgiving enough to listen? Loved it! Thanks KR! Jul 19, Nadene Totally Addicted to Reading rated it it was amazing. I cannot stop thinking about this book. I had heard so much about her work and so I decided to give this one a try.
It was just totally awesome. This is the second book in the Winslow Brothers series and it can be read as a stand-alone. I knew from the start that this book was going to leave me emotionally drained. I was totally invested in the story and the characters. I loved everything about this story. I was hooked from the very first page and I found it rather difficult to put this one down.
This is the kind of story that will make you laugh, cry and scream as you follow the characters on their emotional journey. The story flowed beautifully and the writing was engaging and riveting. The first half of the book was slow but this was not necessarily a bad thing. I believe that this was deliberate as it allowed readers to get a better understanding of the characters as it relates to their fears, pain, doubts and sorrows.
In the second half of the book the characters demonstrated growth and maturity. I like that they both acknowledged their mistakes and were not afraid to forgive thus opening their hearts for reconciliation.
It was easy to understand where Elise was coming from. I understood her fears and doubts when it came to making life changing choices. Her focus all along was on her career, but then Preston entered her life and through a wrench into her plans.
She had no idea how to manage this change. Proposing to Preston is a bittersweet second chance romance that depicts the importance of compromise, support and understanding within relationships. This is a must read and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
Aug 01, 1-Click Addict Support Group rated it it was amazing. Proposing to Preston was no exception. Elise is an actress on the verge of her big break when Preston finds her at an off Off Broadway show. They hit it off beautifully when they meet, and embark on a whirlwind, deeply romantic courtship.
Then, as it does, life happens. The two are driven apart and must find their way back to each other. This book is like two romances in one — we get the first meeting, and then the second chance later on. Proposing to Preston was just incredibly beautifully written. Sometimes it felt like reading poetry — not the confusing kind you hate, but the beautiful kind that takes your breath away. It is, after all, a story of meeting your one true love, being torn apart, and then finding each other again to live happily ever after.
As a loyal reader, I was delighted to see appearances by some English Brothers and of course Brooks and Jess. Regnery writes family relationships brilliantly and I always get a kick out of reading how the siblings relate to each other. The overall vibe is warm, loyal, gentle and humorous. It is by turns swoony, laugh out loud funny, adorable, sexy, heartbreaking, redemptive, and then all the way back to swoony.
I simply cannot wait for the next one! Jul 02, LJT rated it really liked it. Proposing to Preston is the first book I have read from author Katy Regnery and it definitely won't be the last. I found the characters to be interesting and easily identifiable with the world we live in.
The plot moved along at a steady pace and I liked the way Ms. And yet somehow, your love, like the sweetest and brightest light, has found every secret part of me and claimed them all as your own. Yes, my heart belongs to you, my darling, but only because I have given it to you freely—shredded, doubting and hard, though it was—it comes to you warm and vibrant now, made whole by the force of your love, the warmth of your light.
Her costume was a white lace, high-necked Victorian dress that he suspected was quite a bit tighter over her voluptuous breasts than Victoria herself would have approved. Every time the actress gasped dramatically for breath, her flesh pushed provocatively against the straining fabric. But, now I know, my darling. Now I see. It was—ever and always—you!
Good riddance, thought Preston.
