Why braided speaker wire

Recall a test article on different brand cable's in one of the audio magizine's, and seemed to prefer basic 12 zip cord. Renzor , Dec 2, I will never use nothing but basic 16 gauge speaker wire, unbraided or whatever other voodoo science thing comes up next. Well, I suppose I may use larger than 16 gauge if I ever planned on running over 25ft of wire, but I can't see why I ever would.

I take it back, I blew up the tiny little picture and it looks like the strands are black and brown, not brown and beige Mine are black and grey, with ends that look like gold-plated, solid wire, hockey-stick- shaped terminals, that are attached with what looks like silver.

I wish a I had a photo of them because they look really nice maybe another day. Unfortunately they are stiff to the point of feeling nearly brittle, and they seem to carry clearly audible distortion.

Perhaps there is oxidization throughout the wires. Is there a fix for that? I wish they were better but they're worse than anything else I have. Junknewbian , Dec 3, Messages: 8, Last edited: Dec 3, It's a pretty old idea, Alexander Graham Bell seems to be onto something.

I think, with regard to speaker cables, that braided construction is least to do with interference rejection as this is largely mitigated by the low impedance nature of the amp to speaker interface. Moreso, it's about minimizing inductance, but sometimes at the expense of capacitance. Anyway, for speaker cables, not so much about interference.

When current flows through any wire there is a magnetic field set up 90 degrees to the current flow. When two wires run parallel to each other these fields cause capacitance and inductance. Good luck you can also ask the speaker company on the best way to connect them. Only the left speaker is amped. Speaker wire is run from it to the passive right speaker. Reply Robert B on Nov 19, I doubt it active speakers have their own integrated amp built in.

So you connect your source directly into the powered speakers. Enter an answer to this question. No, you need RCA cables to connect your source of music to active speakers. These cables are for passive speakers only. Can you twist off the plugs to use these as bare wire with spring clip terminals? A shopper on May 29, They seem tightly bonded and are probably soldered to the tips.

I'm guessing, if you wanted to be crude about it, you could clip off the ends, strip off the jacket, and put your own spring clips on. Now as for simply screwing off the metal red and black aluminum jackets and inserting clips? No go, sir. I just cut them off,and the sound improvement was still outrageously good. Do you bi-wire? A shopper on Apr 9, I have created a make shift separator using electrical tape to remedy.

I have two amps one for surround, the other for straight 2-channel into a switch, so no. I have tried it before, but since I couldn't detect a difference, for me there's no point. No, I have thought about doing it but not yet. My speakers use a "Pin connector" to attach the speaker wires. Is there an adaptor to use on the banana plug for it to fit in the Pin Connector hole?

Unfortunately no, we currently do not carry any sort of adapter that would convert a banana plug to a pin plug.

Yes, there is such an adapter here at Monoprice, though the company doesn't seem to understand the potential of its own stock! I too need pin connectors, though in my case the amplifier end is where need them whereas my speaker terminals accommodate bananas.

I have successfully used product for many years, and I recommend them to you and to anyone else needing banana-to-pin plug adapters. Are the conductors in the banana plugs made of pure copper? I've noticed that other banana plugs on the Monoprice site are made of brass. I understand that the sheaths are aluminum, and the surface of the plugs are gold-plated, but I am curious as to the core conductor. Sniff on Apr 18, Im not too sure one that but i ave no problems with them. Is the entire length of wire tinned, or just the ends?

I have read that fully tinned conductors yield a brighter sound, though I'm not convinced this to be true. There is no real world downside to using CCA speaker wire in lengths less than 15ft and is not ran in walls. That is why solid core tends to sound smoother, but if too thick can suffer from other types of signal degradation. Litz allows for the signal to pass from one end to the other of the cable while avoiding most of the distortions that are unavoidable with regular stranded cable.

When trying litz in my system for the first time, in comparison to the regular cables,.. For all that high end tizz was now missing. What was missing was the normally heard high frequency tizz that is caused by the interaction taking place within the non insulated strands. Litz may requires that you reset your system because many audiophiles compensate for that tizz and try to find ways to dull it down.

Litz gives a very tight accurate sound when everything is optimal I love it. Its warm when the music is warm Last edited: Sep 9, While there are some industrial applications where Litz wire has advantages, hi-fi headphone and speaker cables are not on that list. It's just another audiophile myth that current jumps from strand to strand. Speedskater said:.
