I tried to find an answer before posting but no luck. Anyway, my room is on the upper floor, the modem is under me, on the ground floor.
Which is damn slow. I'm still not satisfied with this. Is there any way to improve the download speed on the ps3? Or I shouldn't expect too much? Horvi , Nov 7, Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. It would be cool if someone would make a custom driver for an easy to find fast WiFi dongle and a gigabit usb ethernet adaptor. Maxing out USB2. DeViL , Nov 7, Algol likes this. Wait, the first thing you should do is to meassure the speed with the PS3 next to the router At this point you should suspect of the wire antenna inside the PS3 maybe is damaged , and the router wifi range that could be crap because the antenna in the router mostly If that test have decent connections then is a good start point Btw, some routers with an atheros wifi chip can be used as wireless repeaters because have 2 active antennas with 2 wireless lines, with an antenna you take the signal from the "base" router, and the other works as an "acess point" There is actually a name for that technology Godmachine [H]F Junkie.

Ethernet on the other hand has no conditional concerns like walls , interference and crosstalk between channels. I always recommend Ethernet unless its just not practical. If you can keep your PS3 hooked up to Ethernet , then do so. You'll get better throughput and a better ping.
Just so I understand, I will continue to get mbps via wifi regardless of the service I pay for? Whether its 20mbps or mbps, the PS3 will still only see the mbps? That is most likely correct. You have to think of networking as a bunch of linked chains and that chain can only hold as much as its weakest link. In this case, your Wifi and PSN are going to be the weakest links. You've tested this by trying both wifi and wired and shown that the wifi is the weak link. Since you said the PS3 is next to the router, it begs the question "why not just wire it up and not care?
If you really want a little faster wifi with your PS3, get a wireless n wifi ethernet adapter such as this and pair it with a wireless n access point. Alrighty, I'll leave it connected to the router. The speed improvement is too much to pass up. Joined Jun 11, Messages 28, Last edited: Jan 12, Decided to leave it wired as I mentioned before. I also upgraded from 20mbps to 30mbps with my provider. I was expecting mbps at minimum.

Press and hold the power button, then release after hearing a total of four beeps: two slow beeps, followed by two quick beeps.
Your PS3 will power on and display the Recovery Menu. Repeat this step if the PS3 powers off again. This means you released the power button too late. Rebuilding the database speeds up the performance of your PS3 without deleting your games, photos, videos, music, trophies, and files. Your PS3 will rebuild its database, then reboot when finished. Method 2. Switch to using a wired Ethernet connection, if possible. A wired connection is often faster, more reliable, and more consistent with Internet speeds than wireless connections.
Power on your computer and connect to the same network as your PS3. Launch the command console on your computer. Write down all details about your network. This includes the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. If using a wireless connection, enter your network name and password.
